Junk Removal

Yesterday my friend and I loaded his 3/4 ton truck full of scrap metal and "junk" from our back yard and headed for the city dump. The removing of "junk" from my personal spaces evokes a mix of emotions for me. On one hand I am happy to clear out un-needed, broken and useless items and on the other hand I feel "guilty" about filling the land fill. Given half the load was scrap metal makes me feel somewhat better because the material does not go into the landfill-it is piled up and recycled. Our city has a full recycling program which is great but I noticed when we were at the bins unloading the truck some people were not sorting out their recyclable material..just throwing everything into the landfill. It surprises me around the number of people that just don't seem to get the importance of re-cycling stuff. Just too busy or too lazy or whatever to take the time to sort and prevent unnecessary items from being buried in the ground?
