Today I am sitting at my daughter's worktable in her apartment in St Omer France after my first night's sleep in France . I am a long way from San Diego (the first stop on my vacation) and from my home in Canada. I experienced a surreal experience walking through the square in Lille, France after debarking from the high speed TVG train realizing how much change I have experienced in less than 24 hours. There is nothing like jet lag and sleep deprivation to alter states of mind??
Once on the road recollections of past trips kick in as I have visited France twice before. There is something about the European way of life that is appealing to me and it is interesting to be part of it if even for a short period of time.
My baggage did not make the plane in Chicago so I am in France without a change of clothes. I had a sense this was going to happen because of the delayed flight leaving San Diego and the fact I was the third last person to board the plane for Paris after dashing through the Chicago terminal to the gate. Hopefully I will be reunited tomorrow with my lost possessions?
I traveled alone on this segment of the trip and as always there are adventures and things to adapt to when traveling which I suppose adds an the appeal of leaving home and exploring the world? I must admit as I get older my wanderlust is diminishing somewhat but it is still present in my soul...
I enjoyed my week in San Diego even though the weather was much colder and wetter than normal. My wife and I (and mother-in-law) participated in many of the excellent tourist type activities that the area provides and took in the excellent Californian hospitality and courtesy that I have experienced on previous trips. I think the State takes it's tourism industry seriously and it shows...
