I am keeping an Excel spreadsheet documenting the tasks and hours spent reassembling my Triumph TR3. This activity keeps me focused on the project and offers a daily recap of my progress and commitment to getting the car back together. I have broken the project into phases with the hope as the goals are reached I will celebrate and hopefully be stimulated to keep on going.
An interesting outcome from the practice is I have become more conscious of how I spend my time away from the project. For example if I am watching TV I ask myself if it would be a better use of my time to be outside in the garage turning wrenches than watching another episode of Mantracker. 30 minutes is 30 minutes of progress vrs passively watching TV and not committing the time to the reconstruction. I would be using my energy and talent to pursue my hobby vrs trying to escape reality by watching TV...
I am now walking a fine line between working on the car vrs the assorted "must do's" that surface constantly. What is more important? Riding my bicycle and getting some exercise of spending the hour working on the Triumph? I should probably be riding my bike. To be too obsessed with being in the garage may not enhance my lifestyle and actually turn out to be detrimental? Options/options/options...
